Soundlines

Information

Jackie Calderwood is working with the Strata Collective as part of her PhD research at the IOCT. Strata have recently secured funding from Awards for All and SW Screen to deliver the Soundlines project in North Somerset, working with partners who include three local schools, North Somerset museum services and the young documentary crew from the eShed, Bristol. Levels of mentoring and support are created between staff, specialist artists, young volunteers, creative media diploma students and Key Stage 2 students.

Soundlines encourages new ways of seeing through investigative, interactive responses to the historic landscape of Sand Point – a stunning finger of the Mendips which divides the Severn Estuary from the Bristol Channel, with spectacular views out to sea and across to the Welsh hills.

The project delivers active learning through field trips and pervasive media technology, providing specialist training in new skills - film, animation, music, mediascape. It culminates in a celebratory community event in April, and the launch of the Soundlines website collating the learning experience through interactive walk-traces, compositions, animations and video.
