Empedia

Information

Empedia started life in early 2009 as a proposal to create ‘East Midlands Digital Factbook’. It aimed to provide people visiting and living in the region one-stop access to information such as local facts & figures, the locations of museums, libraries and archives (MLA), tourist information and the latest regional 2012 Games news.

Working with Sean Clark and Cuttlefish, this vision has been expanded to include the delivery of a broad range of location-based multimedia services to both desktop and mobile Internet users. With this enhanced vision, the Empedia project has the potential to help promote the region in many new and exciting ways, as well as provide a lasting infrastructure that will enable the MLA and other regional content providers share multimedia materials using a common and extensible platform.

The project as funded by Renaissance East Midlands will see the creation of the Empedia platform and its population with regionally representative content. It will result in a usable and innovative infrastructure with sufficient content to excite and engage visitors to our region and those who live here.
